ISLAMABAD, Sep 04 (NNI): The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday ordered to arrest the policemen involved in kidnapping and extortion.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) submitted a report against the policemen to the IHC.
IHC judge Justice Babar Sattar heard the case. The court expressed surprise over the fact that the policemen did not join the investigation despite being booked.
“Did the FIA make any arrest? Was any inquiry conducted against the policemen?” Justice Babar Sattar inquired. “We attempted to conduct an inquiry, but the accused want an escape,” the investigation officer told the court.
“Have you issued arrest warrants for the policemen? If they are not joining the investigation, arrest them. There is one law for everyone. There will be no separate law for the policemen,” Justice Babar Sattar said to the investigation officer.
“The Islamabad inspector general of police (IGP) has suspended the assistant sub-inspector (ASI) and three constables,” the lawyer for the IGP told the court. “The junior officers were suspended but the senior officer wasn’t,” Justice Babar Sattar remarked.
The court also sought a written reply to the contempt of court’s show cause notice, adding that there would be a hearing on the show cause notice if the answer was not satisfactory. The court then adjourned the hearing of the case.
It is to be noted here that a case of kidnapping and extortion was registered against 10 officials of Islamabad police. The FIA registered a case against the deputy superintendent of police (DSP), an ASI and eight constables.
The IHC had ordered to register a case against all those police officials involved in kidnapping and extortion. “The CIA police officers were found involved in criminal misconduct, kidnapping and extortion,” the text of the FIA’s first information report (FIR) read.
“The police officers had abducted Mirage Bibi’s three grandsons and other members of her family,” it added.
ASI Rana Tasneem through his informers demanded money from the family, it stated. Three police informers namely Asif, Ehsan and Boota were also nominated in the case. NNI
