ISLAMABAD, Sep 22 (NNI): Former Punjab chief minister and PTI President Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has said seeing the current situation, every politician should secure his protective bail before elections.
During an informal talk with journalists in the courtroom of the anti-terrorism court in Islamabad on Friday, the former Punjab chief minister said that elections should be held on time. “As elections are not being delayed, it seems everything has come to a standstill,” he added.
To a question, Elahi said that Allah knows better if he could be able to get out of jail before the elections. “However, seeing the current situation, I advise all politicians to secure their protective bails before elections.”
To another question, he refused to comment on backdoor talks with the PTI chairman. He, however, hoped to hold another meeting with PML-Q leader and his cousin Ch Shujaat Hussain.
When asked for comments on PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s remarks that it didn’t matter if Ch Pervaiz Elahi or Sh Rashid remained inside or outside the jail, the PTI leader laughed it off saying ‘let Bilawal celebrate his birthday’.
When another journalist asked him what he would say on the news that PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif again changed his arrival date, Elahi said in a light note “Nawaz Sharif himself has changed’.
The former Punjab chief minister held PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif and party President Shehbaz Sharif responsible for inflation in the country and inflated electricity bills. “Today, the middle class has vanished due to inflation,” he said.
On the other hand, Pervaiz Elahi’s wife, son and daughter-in-law filed a petition seeking his interim bail in the Ring Road corruption case.
Elahi’s wife Qaisara Elahi, son Rasikh Elahi and daughter-in-law Zahra Elahi filed the petition. Special Judge Anti-Corruption Ali Raza Awan heard the petition.
An anti-terrorism court has adjourned the hearing of a petition filed by PTI President Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi in the Judicial Complex vandalism case till Oct 13.
The former Punjab chief minister was presented in the Anti-Terrorism Court of Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain. Elahi submitted a petition pleading with the court to allow him a meeting with his family.
During the hearing, Judge Zulqarnain inquired of the PTI leader if his bail had been accepted and if he had submitted his surety bond. The judge told him to submit the surety bond, and he was free.
But the defence lawyer informed the court that Elahi was on judicial remand in an anti-corruption case. He said that his bail application had already been filed in the case.
At this point, Elahi came to the rostrum. He told the court that his stomach was upset due to bad prison meal. He complained that another wall was erected in front of his barrack which had hindered the whiff of fresh air in his cell. He further complained that a stranger was standing guard outside his cell.
The judge, however, ordered to find out the identity of the stranger. The lawyer requested the court to give them a long date as they had already filed a plea for bail in the corruption case.
On this, the judge remarked that he could even give them a date after 40 days. Saying this, the judge adjourned the case till October 13. NNI
