LAHORE, Mar 02 (NNI): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced to build new schools and upgrade old ones in order to provide free education to children at their doorsteps across the province.
In order to build new schools, the Punjab government has asked for the record of land allocated for government schools.
An order was also issued to immediately transfer the land allocated for schools to the Education Department.
New schools will be built on the land only in the name of School Education Department.
In a letter wrote to education department, it was instructed that no new schools will be built on annexed land.
The text of letter says all the primary schools will be given the status of middle, middle schools as high school and high schools will be given the status of higher secondary schools.
In this regard, the School Education Department has sought applications from schools for upgradation by March 10.
There is an urgent need to build 3000 new schools due to the increase in enrollment in all the districts of Punjab but the project to build one hundred new schools in Lahore is pending from 5 years, teachers said. NNI
