ISLAMABAD, March 8 (NNI): The journalist panel maintained its triumphant run in the National Press Club elections on March 7, 2024, securing all executive body seats. The final election results, announced by the Chairman of the Election Committee, Asim Qadeer Rana, revealed Azhar Jatoi as the newly elected President.
Azhar Jatoi secured a significant majority with 1038 votes, surpassing competitors Shakeel Qarar (478 votes), Farooq Faisal Khan (390 votes), and Sagheer Chaudhry (171 votes).
Nayyar Ali, representing the journalist panel, clinched the Secretary position with 988 votes, indicating strong support for the panel’s agenda. Dr. Sadia Kamal (555 votes), Furqan Rao (413 votes), and Sardar Hafeez (50 votes) were the other contenders.
Waqar Abbasi, a candidate from the journalist panel, triumphed in the Finance Secretary category with 914 votes, reflecting confidence in the panel’s fiscal responsibility.
The journalist panel dominated the Vice President positions, with Ehtishamul Haque (1053 votes), Shah Muhammad (792 votes), and Syed Zafar Hussain Hashmi (858 votes) securing victories.
Sehar Aslam, a journalist panel candidate, secured the Women’s Vice President seat with 1023 votes, indicating support for gender diversity within the National Press Club.
In the Joint Secretary category, the journalist panel continued its success, with Syed Aun Shirazi (943 votes), Javed Bhagat (933 votes), and Talat Farooq (913 votes) winning.
Sehrish Qureshi of the Journalist Panel secured a decisive victory for the Women’s Joint Secretary seat with 1057 votes.
The final election results were announced by Chairman of the Election Committee, Asim Qadeer Rana. Newly elected President Azhar Jatoi expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support and conveyed his commitment to upholding journalistic principles.
