ISLAMABAD, Jul 24 (NNI): The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday barred the authorities from arresting Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan till the next hearing on August 9 in the Quetta lawyer’s murder case.
A three-member SC bench, headed by Justice Yahya Afridi, conducted the hearing on the plea against the nomination of the PTI chairman in the lawyer’s murder case and adjourned the case till August 9 next.
Earlier, the Balochistan inspector general of police (IGP) on Monday submitted an investigation report to the Supreme Court (SC) regarding the nomination of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in the case of the murder of Abdul Razzaq Shar Advocate in Quetta.
“According to the first information report (FIR), threats were being conveyed to the deceased for filing a petition for an action against the PTI chairman under Article 6,” the report said.
“During the investigation, a seven-member joint investigation team (JIT), headed by the deputy inspector general (DIG) of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), was formed by the interior ministry on June 8 last,” it added.
“So far, eight meetings of the JIT have been held. In the first meeting of the JIT, it was decided to summon the accused. Summons notices were sent to the PTI chairman on June 19 last,” it stated.
“It was decided to investigate four accused including the PTI chairman in the case. The statements of the deceased’s wife and two brothers have also been recorded,” it added.
“Till now, the PTI chairman has not joined the investigation despite several summon notices. Further investigation in this case is underway,” it stated. NNI
