ISLAMABAD, Aug 08 (NNI): The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday disposed of the petition filed against the release of development funds to members of the provincial assembly (MPAs) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) by the PTI government, saying it was ineffective.
A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Umar Ata Bandial, heard the case.
During the hearing, Justice Jamal Mandokhel asked how the issue of release of funds was challenged.
Counsel for the ex-MPA Khushdil Khan, petitioner in the case, told the court that the release of funds to some selected MPAs had been challenged. “Actually, the PTI government had doled out funds to its own MPAs,” he said.
The CJP remarked that now the assembly had been dissolved, and one such case was already pending in the SC.
Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar said if an MPA demanded funds, he did not do so for his own family, but for the people of his constituency.
Advocate Ahsan Bhoon said that the crux of the matter was that development schemes in other constituencies should not get affected because of release of funds to selected MPAs. NNI
