LAHORE, Aug 17 (NNI): Punjab Chief Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi Thursday promised the Christian community in Jaranwala to swiftly restore the damages within the next three to four days.

Punjab CM Naqvi held an important press conference on Thursday and expressed a commitment to ensure justice is served for those involved in the unfortunate incident.

He told the media that two cases have been registered related to the Jaranwala incident which showed the seriousness of the authorities to take action against those involved in it.

Earlier, Punjab CM Mohsin Naqvi attended an interfaith harmony meeting and addressed the religious scholars. He termed the incident of Jaranwala a premeditated occurrence and underscored the gravity of the situation and the need for unity during these trying times.

Pertinent to mention here that yesterday, high alert was sounded in Punjab city of Jaranwala following protests by locals against the alleged desecration of Holy Quran by some members of the Christian community.

Hundreds of people took part in the protests and blocked the Cinema Chowk Road. There were also reports of alleged storming of a church in a local Christian colony of Jaranwala.

The local markets were shut down along with the Motorway while the angry residents continued the protests against a Christian man and his two sons for allegedly desecrating the Holy Quran.

A heavy contingent of police led by SP Bilal Sulehri has been deployed in the city to quell the violence protests.

Jaranwala Deputy Commissioner Shaukat Masih was replaced following the protests.

The late arrival of the local SHO Mansoor Sadiq earlier contributed to the worsening of the situation.

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar Ul Haq Kakar has already condemned the Jaranwala incident and affirmed to take stern action against those responsible for the disgraceful act.

Taking the social media site X, formerly known as Twitter, Anwaar Ul Haq Kakar said, “I am gutted by the visuals coming out of Jaranwala, Faisalabad. “Stern action would be taken against those who violate the law and target minorities. All law enforcement has been asked to apprehend culprits & bring them to justice,” he hinted.

“Rest assured that the government of Pakistan stands with our citizens on an equal basis,” he added. NNI
