KARACHI, Sep 20 (NNI): Karachi Police Chief Javed Alam Odho has issued a social media policy for officers, restricting them from using TikTok or any other platform without permission.
In a letter addressed to concerned police officers within Karachi Range, including DIGs and SSPs, Additional Inspector General (AIG) of Police Javed Alam Odho outlined a comprehensive social media policy for police personnel.
It is pertinent to mention that this policy comes after earlier orders from IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon failed to curb TikTok activities among police officers.
The Karachi Police Chief emphasized that pre-approval is required for any videos featuring police uniforms, vehicles, or equipment, which should only be uploaded through official accounts.
“The concerned offices/officers must refrain from posting, sharing, or engaging in videos that contain mockery or disrespect towards individuals based on race, gender, caste, or religion. Police personnel are prohibited from sharing personal, political, or religious views on various social media platforms. Official social media accounts related to police activities should only be managed by the concerned DIGsP/SSsP/Unit Head Media Team,” the policy read.
Additionally, the Karachi Police Chief instructed personnel not to use department offices or vehicles in posts for any social media activity without prior permission from the relevant authority.
Javed Alam Odho directed policemen to remove any inappropriate videos or content already uploaded on various social media platforms within seven days.
In a similar move earlier this month, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police Department issued a directive to all regional police officers and district police officers, prohibiting police personnel from using such platforms.
According to the directive, police officers and personnel are strictly prohibited from using social media platforms. Regional police officers have been instructed to ensure the strict enforcement of this policy.
Previously, Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz banned the use of social media platforms (TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, etc.) for on-duty policemen following the viral circulation of several videos featuring Punjab police officers and female personnel. NNI
