LAHORE, Sep 20 (NNI): Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif has set a target to address the shortage of specialist doctors in district hospitals.

The Chief Minister requested a plan from the Health Department regarding the training of specialists in cardiology, neurology, pediatrics, and other necessary fields. The proposal to focus on the specialization of doctors based on patient needs was reviewed.

It was agreed to propose a special package for specialist doctors in district hospitals. Emphasis was placed on addressing the shortage of specialist doctors in remote hospitals across Punjab. A decision was made to ensure the provision of urgently required medical equipment for heart disease patients in the districts.

The proposal to provide cath labs in different districts of Punjab in five phases was reviewed. The machines will be provided to Lahore’s PIC, Gangaram, Mayo Hospital, Khawaja Safdar Memorial Hospital in Sialkot, and the Cardiology Institute in Wazirabad. Cath labs will also be set up in Sahiwal, the Faisalabad and Multan Institutes of Cardiology, as well as in Bahawalpur, the Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology, and Multan Nishtar Hospital. Additionally, cath labs will be established in Gujranwala Hospital and the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cardiology.

Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif chaired a special meeting in which a detailed briefing was given on establishing cath labs in various hospitals across Punjab. She also sought proposals to improve the ‘Universal Health Program.’

Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Provincial Minister for Information and Culture Azma Zahid Bokhari, Health Advisor Dr. Azhar Kayani, Parliamentary Secretary Rushda Lodhi, MPA Sania Ashiq, Dr. Adnan Khan, Chief Secretary, Chairman P&D, Secretary Health, Principal Secretary to the CM, and other relevant officials were also present.
