ISLAMABAD, Mar 08 (NNI): The Islamabad police on Wednesday received arrest warrants issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan for former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan.
The warrants were received by the Legal Branch of the IG Islamabad.
The top heads of Islamabad police have once again started mulling a strategy to apprehend Imran.
An Islamabad police party came to Lahore on Sunday to arrest Imran in compliance with court orders but the PTI chief dodged them as his party leader told the police that he was not at home.
On Tuesday, irked by their persistent absence, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) issued bailable arrest warrants for PTI Chairman Imran Khan and senior party leader Fawad Chaudhry in a case pertaining to contempt of the ECP and chief election commissioner (CEC).
A four-member ECP bench headed by member from Sindh Nisar Durrani noted that the former prime minister was not appearing before the electoral watchdog despite being summoned persistently, which amounts to insulting the commission.
The ECP bench directed the inspector general of police (IGP), Islamabad to implement the warrants and arrest Imran and Fawad Ch and produce them before it the on March 14. NNI
