LAHORE, Mar 03 (NNI): Punjab launched the free solar panel scheme, with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz directing authorities to expedite the process swiftly.
CM inaugurated the Chief Minister Punjab Free Solar Panel Scheme through an automated digital lottery, announcing winners by randomly selecting numbers.
During a briefing, Punjab’s Secretary Energy informed the CM that under the scheme, 94,483 solar systems will be installed over the year. The programme is specifically designed for consumers using up to 200 units of electricity per month, who will receive free solar installations.
According to officials, 861,000 consumers applied for the scheme, which has been entirely digitized.
To prevent theft, each solar panel and inverter will be linked to the recipient’s computerized national identity card (CNIC). The scheme is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 57,000 tons annually, while also easing the federal government’s subsidy burden.
Following physical verification, installation will commence by the end of March. NNI
