WASHINGTON/ISLAMABAD/NEW DELHI, May 10 (NNI): US President Donald Trump on Saturday announced a ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan after days of deadly jet fighter, missile, drone and artillery attacks between the nuclear-armed rivals.

“After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE,” Trump said on Truth Social, praising the two countries for “using Common Sense and Great Intelligence.”

“Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” he added.

Donald Trump congratulated both the countries on using common sense and great intelligence. He also thanked them for their attention to this matter.

His statement came after Pakistan hit back at Indian targets in the wee hours of Saturday in what appeared to be a significant damage to India.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the agreement follows extensive negotiations by him and Vice President J.D. Vance with Indian and Pakistani Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Shehbaz Sharif and other top officials.

“I am pleased to announce the Governments of India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire and to start talks on a broad set of issues at a neutral site,” Rubio said on X.

“We commend Prime Ministers Modi and Sharif on their wisdom, prudence, and statesmanship in choosing the path of peace,” he added.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also said that he and the US Vice President JD Vance had engaged with senior Indian and Pakistani officials, including Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Shehbaz Sharif, External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir, and National Security Advisors Ajit Doval and Asim Malik.

“I am pleased to announce the Governments of India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire and to start talks on a broad set of issues at a neutral site,” Rubio wrote on X.

“We commend Prime Ministers Modi and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on their wisdom, prudence, and statesmanship in choosing the path of peace,” he added.

The announcement comes after Pakistan launched counterattacks against India after three of its air bases were struck overnight and the conflict between the arch-foes escalated to dangerous levels.

Pakistan launched Operation ‘Bunyan-un-Marsoos’ (Iron Wall) in response to Indian aggression and destroyed many military installations of the enemy. Reports suggest Pakistan in its strikes destroyed Indian Brahmos missile depot in Beas, Pathankot airfield, and Adampur airbase.

Pakistan Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also confirmed the news. On his X account, Dar said both countries have agreed to a ceasefire with immediate effect.”

“Pakistan has always strived for peace and security in the region, without compromising on its sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he and added that Islamabad would consider de-escalation if New Delhi stopped further attacks.

“We responded because our patience had reached its limit. If they stop here, we will also consider stopping,” Dar said, adding that he had conveyed the same message to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who spoke with him after speaking to New Delhi hours ago.

“Political contacts are underway, and we have exercised a great deal of patience,” Dar stated. “But when the patience scale is full, we respond. And that’s exactly what we did — a strong response in our defence.”

He reiterated Pakistan’s willingness to de-escalate tensions, provided India halts its aggressive posture. “If India stops, we will also stop,” Dar said. “We talk about equality. Fighting is not the solution to anything.”

Referring to international mediation efforts, Dar revealed that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio had been assured that if India refrains from further military action, Pakistan would step back. “But we don’t want commitments. We acted in self-defence.”

He also confirmed that the United States and Saudi Arabia have called on both nations to step back from the brink. “We told them that if India stops, we will also stop. That’s our clear stance.”

Speaking at a press conference in New Delhi, India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri also announced Saturday that New Delhi and Islamabad have agreed to observe a ceasefire and stop military actions.

The ceasefire officially began at 4:30 PM, according to the Indian Foreign Ministry.

The Indian spokesperson also stated that negotiations between the two countries will take place tomorrow at a neutral location.

India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar announced that India and Pakistan have reached an understanding to stop firing and military operations, marking a significant step towards reducing tensions between the two countries.

“India and Pakistan have today worked out an understanding on stoppage of firing and military action,’ Jaishankar said in a statement. He stated, “India has consistently maintained a firm and uncompromising stance against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. It will continue to do so.”

Earlier in the day, a conversation took place between Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) and his Indian counterpart, during which both sides agreed to the ceasefire.

The spokesperson confirmed that negotiations between the two countries will take place tomorrow at a neutral location.

The Indian spokesperson further stated that the DGMOs will hold another round of talks on May 12.

The ceasefire agreement will apply across land, air, and sea, ensuring complete cessation of hostilities between the two nations.

Earlier, Wing Commander Vyomika Singh said India was committed to “non-escalation.” “Indian armed forces reiterate their commitment to non-escalation, provided it is reciprocated by the Pakistan military,” she said.

Hypersonic missile fired by Pakistani jet JF 17 Thunder destroyed Indian S400 air defence system in Udhampur. The system costs $1.5 billion. This is a great loss of India.

In its Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos, which was launched after Fajr prayers, Pakistan army used Fateh-I missile and destroyed a number of targets in India. The surface-to-surface Fateh-I missile was fired from an undisclosed location.

Security sources said Pakistan’s missiles targeted Indian locations from where they (India) carried out attacks on innocent civilians and mosques in Pakistan.

Security sources revealed that the G-Top, the supply depot of the Indian brigade headquarters, Uri, had also been destroyed. NNI
