ISLAMABAD, May 16 (NNI): Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Umar Ata Bandial has responded to the criticism which he faced after welcoming PTI Chairman Imran Khan in his court last week.
While hearing a civil case in Supreme Court on Tuesday, CJP Bandial greeted lawyer Asghar Sabzwari by saying “Good to see you”, the same line he earlier used to welcome the PTI chief in his court.
In his remarks to Asghar Sabzwari, Justice Bandial said “Good to see you. You have come to my court after a long time.” He further said “I greet everyone with ‘good to see you’. However, I was the target of criticism for saying these words. But, I respect everyone.”
Justice Bandial further said high moral values and ethics are must for everyone. “There is no fun without moral values,” he added.
PML-N Senior Vice-President and Chief Organiser Maryam Nawaz was quick to react to CJP’s clarification that he welcomes everyone with “Good to see you” greeting.
In a post uploaded on Twitter on Tuesday, Maryam Nawaz said “You greet everyone with ‘good to see you’ even he has committed corruption of billions? You phones registrar to arrange Mercedez to end off everyone like this? You send everyone to rest house to jail? Showers bails during their remand?”
On Thursday last, PTI chief and former prime minister Imran Khan had appeared in the Supreme Court in a plea against his arrest a couple of days earlier in the Al-Qadir Trust case from the Islamabad High Court premises in a high-drama scenario.
As Imran Khan appeared at the rostrum, CJP Bandial welcomed him by saying: “Good to see you.” NNI
