ISLAMABAD, Jun 05 (NNI): While hearing a plea for the recovery of former adviser to Prime Minister Shahzad Akbar’s brother Murad Akbar, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) Monday banned the airing of judges’ remarks and said that only the written verdict of the court would be aired.

The court in its order stated: “Only the written verdict of the court will be aired. Neither the name nor the picture of the judge will be displayed. It will be contempt of court otherwise.”

The judge said: “I am writing to Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra). If there is a violation, the license of the TV channel will be cancelled.”

The additional attorney general, Islamabad inspector general of police (IGP) and the interior secretary appeared in the court.

“The file of the case is being sent to the chief justice. Similar cases are pending in the division bench,” the text of the verdict read. “In the cases of Murad Akbar’s abduction and the use of police uniform, the investigation should be carried out according to the law,” it added.

“A case was registered against the kidnappers of Murad Akbar. The Islamabad inspector general of police (IGP) is carrying out an investigation to recover Murad Akbar,” it stated. “The video clip shows that police uniforms were used in the abduction, and the Rangers’ uniform was not used,” it asserted.

The court also directed Daniyal Akbar to submit his statement to the investigation officer and provide a copy of the video clip to the investigation officer. NNI
