PESHAWAR, Oct 22 (NNI): Expressing his surprise that the Senate passed the 26th constitutional amendment despite the fact that there was no representation of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) in it, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Barrister Saif said on Tuesday that it was a big question mark over the legality of the entire exercise.

In a statement, he said that this was such a constitutional riddle to which the constitutional bench, which would be set up following the passage of the amendment, would not have any answer.

Calling it completely incomprehensible, Barrister Saif said that the KP government not only condemned it in the strongest possible terms but would also take legal action in this regard.

The PTI leader said that the amendments had paved the way for the interference of the executive as well as the legislature in the working of the judiciary. “When the country’s chief justice will be appointed by a prime minister, who will definitely be belonging to a political party, the entire edifice of justice will come crashing down.”

Consequently, he went on to say, courts will give verdicts not for the betterment of the people but to serve the interests of political parties. “This amounts to a treason with the constitution,” he added.

Barrister Saif the PTI leadership was fully aware as to which party members of the parliament (MPs) had voted for these amendments. “Now the party and the masses both will take these MPs to task. We will make an example of them,” he announced. NNI
