LAHORE, Dec 17 (NNI): Chief Justice Lahore High Court, Justice Aalia Neelam, has resolved the longstanding dispute surrounding the relocation of Model Town Kucheri.
It has been decided that all civil courts in the city will be consolidated in a single location, with four judicial towers set to be constructed near Awan-e-Adl.
The legal community has welcomed the decision, expressing gratitude to the Chief Justice for addressing their concerns. Last year, civil courts were shifted to various locations across Lahore, leading to frequent boycotts by lawyers. However, with Justice Aalia Neelam’s intervention, the issue has been amicably resolved.
Chief Justice Aalia Neelam announced the construction of judicial towers and allocated funds for the project during meetings with bar representatives. Advocate General Punjab, Khalid Ishaq, confirmed the release of 262.5 million PKR for the initiative, which has been well-received by lawyers’ groups.
Prominent legal figures, including former Supreme Court Bar President Ahsan Bhawan and former Lahore High Court Bar President Hafeezur Rehman Chaudhry, lauded Justice Neelam’s efforts. They described the move as a significant step toward ensuring timely justice for citizens.
Speaking to City 42, Lahore High Court Bar President Asad Manzoor Butt and Lahore Bar President Munir Hussain Bhatti emphasized that the Chief Justice’s decision fulfils a longstanding demand of the legal community. They expressed optimism that this initiative would streamline legal proceedings and improve access to justice.
The decision has been celebrated across the legal fraternity. Among those who met with Justice Aalia Neelam to discuss the project were Advocate General Punjab Khalid Ishaq, Vice Chairman Punjab Bar Chaudhry Babar Waheed, President Lahore Bar Munir Hussain Bhatti, and other bar leaders.
This landmark initiative is seen as a major victory for both lawyers and citizens, promising a more efficient judicial system for Lahore. NNI
