KARACHI, Jan 29 (NNI): Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, the senior puisne judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, urged the litigants to adopt the Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR) system instead of moving courts frequently.
Addressing a seminar in IBA Karachi on Wednesday, he said that 86pc cases are pending in the district courts in Pakistan.
“As many as 2.4 million cases are pending in the lower courts. We should try to resolve the matter through arbitration instead of moving the courts frequently,” said the top jurist. He said that the litigants should adopt the alternate ways to resolve their issues.
“We are working with the shortage of judges. The issues would not be resolved by only issuing the stay orders,” said Justice Mansoor Ali Shah.
He said that there is a need to change our mindset and adopt the Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR) system.
“There are 90 judges for 0.1 million people in other countries but we are far behind here,” Justice Shah said. NNI
