ISLAMABAD (NNI): Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that PML-N, PPP and JUI have almost reach consensus on constitutional amendments and they are moving towards legislation, adding that the government has political powers and they will get the draft of the amendments approved from both houses of the parliament.

Addressing a meeting of PPP parliamentary leaders in Islamabad on Friday, Bilawal said that PPP was going to fulfil its commitment which was yet unfulfilled.

He said, “We are moving towards the constitutional amendments, the draft is almost final which has been prepared on the suggestions of PML-N, PP and JUI regarding judicial reforms”.

Bilawal said he will meet Maulana Fazlur Rehman again soon and all of his legitimate demands will be placed before the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He hoped that the Prime Minister will follow his advice and they will get into position to approve the draft of the amendments.

Meanwhile, in a major breakthrough, the special parliamentary committee — comprising government and opposition members — has approved the draft for the 26th constitutional amendment.

Chairman of the special committee Khursheed Shah said the committee unanimously approved the draft for the proposed constitutional amendments.

According to details, the committee approved the constitutional package containing 36 points with most of the proposed amendments related to the judicial reforms.

According to sources, the committee gave the final approval for constructing the constitutional bench in the Supreme Court.

The draft prepared by the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) was approved after the government amended it.

The draft was agreed upon last night at Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s residence. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari decided to approve the draft.

Maulana Fazl will convince PTI about the passed draft related to benches. The government will get the first half of the draft passed by the Parliament tomorrow. NNI
