LAHORE, Dec 01 (NNI): The Punjab Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced a crackdown against single-use plastic, starting from December 10, 2024. A notification has been issued, amending the laws related to the use and sale of single-use plastic.
Violators will face penalties ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 50,000, along with potential confiscation of materials and sealing of premises.
The notification includes a complete ban on the production, sale, and use of plastic shopping bags thinner than 75 microns. Citizens have been given a grace period until December 9 to comply with the new regulations.
To ensure effective implementation, plastic management committees have been established in all districts. Additionally, the EPA has directed media campaigns and public awareness drives to be intensified. Meetings with Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and District Police Officers (DPOs) have also been scheduled to streamline enforcement efforts.
The EPA has urged district administrations and police to fully cooperate in executing the crackdown, emphasising strict actions against manufacturing, selling, and using single-use plastics. NNI
