ISLAMABAD, Nov 12 (NNI): The Supreme Court of Pakistan’s constitutional benches are set to commence hearings on November 14, following a decision by the judges’ committee for constitutional benches during a meeting in Islamabad on Tuesday.
The judges committee meeting, chaired by Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan, lasted for an hour, during which the scheduling of cases for the constitutional benches was discussed and reviewed.
In the meeting, it was decided that cases would be scheduled in the order of their filing, ensuring each receives attention based on its turn. Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar joined the meeting via phone.
It is worth mentioning that following the passage of the 26th Constitutional Amendment, the Judicial Commission of Pakistan, chaired by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, approved the establishment of a seven-member Constitutional Bench on November 5, 2024.
Seven out of twelve commission members voted in favour of creating the benches headed by Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan, which will function for two months under the leadership of Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan.
The bench includes justices from across the provinces to ensure broad representation.
Justice Ayesha Malik will join Justice Amin-ud-Din to represent Punjab, while Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan and Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail will represent Balochistan.
Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi will represent Sindh, and Justice Musarrat Hilali will represent Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). NNI
